In a move which will be a boost to high street businesses as well as helping shoppers, Conservative-run West Sussex County Council is set to freeze on-street parking charges.
With Lib-Dem Mid Sussex planning to hike their car park fees, this will come as welcome news to many residents.
Conservative Cabinet member, Cllr Joy Dennis, has made the decision which is set to apply from 4th October, subject to any last-minute call-in.
It was part of the on-street parking charges review 2024/25 and applies to all parking permits, parking bay suspensions as well as pay-and-display areas.
"This is a hugely welcome decision of the WSCC Cabinet", says East Grinstead councillor and Cabinet member Jacquie Russell. "Especially here in East Grinstead which is being hammered by Mid Sussex District. Council in terms of parking charge increases.
The district council recently decided to defer their decision on extending evenings/weekend parking and is also considering a resident's permit scheme following a barrage of complaints to their earlier proposal.
Cllr Russell was a frontrunner in lobbying for some kind of permit for those who have an on-street permit but are sometimes left with no option but to park in the town's car parks.
