Residents and business owners are urged by East Grinstead's Conservative councillors to respond to consultation over a proposed hike in the town's car parking charges.
Mid Sussex District Council are now consulting on extending car parking charges into the evenings as well as Sundays and Bank Holidays.
The consultation runs for 21 days from 11th July till 1st August. If you wish to register your views please click on this link and email [email protected]
Conservatives on the district council will force a debate on the matter as soon as they can under council procedures.
"Any debate has been deferred for six months because we had already tried to stop the increases through trying to amend the budget in February before the petition was submitted", explains Conservative Cllr Jacquie Russell. "It can be debated but we have to wait until Sept/October time."
Meanwhile, locals are asked to maintain pressure against the scheme by sending in their responses.
The council is not consulting where it does not have to. But, because of the nature of the increases proposed for East Grinstead, they must reach out and at least be seen to be seeking views.
As their website states: "Any proposed adjustments to times or days of the week (in this case evenings, Sundays, and bank holidays) require a statutory consultation."
Conservative town councillor Ed Godwin (pictured) is among those campaigning against a scheme that could cause "Irreparable harm" to the town's shops and businesses.
