A road improvement scheme, proposed by a leading Conservative county councillor, offers an improved pedestrian walkway at a key site in East Grinstead. The plans have now been published and opened to consultation.
"I have been pushing for an improved crossing area and road safety improvements on De La Warr Rd for the last 18 months and I am pleased to say the proposals for an upgrade in this area are now out to public consultation", says Cllr Jacquie Russell
The proposal is to make a permanent Traffic Regulation Order that will prohibit waiting at any time (introduce double yellow lines) on both sides of De La Warr Road in East Grinstead from a point 25m east of its junction with Church Lane, westwards for some 95metres. In addition, the proposal seeks to install two raised traffic calming features on De La Warr Road in East Grinstead.
These features will be full width speed tables, with one located immediately east of its junction with Church Lane, and the other located on the bend in the road, west of its junction with Church Lane. Both features will be appx 65mm high and constructed in black McAdam.
Working with Mid Sussex District Council the proposal seeks to convert the grass verge into a walkway down from Chequer Mead car park making it easier particularly for those with mobility issues/buggies/wheelchairs.
Below is a link to the TRO Team’s consultation web page, containing plans showing the new parking restriction, the public notice, statement of reasons for proposing the Order, and the draft Order itself. If you wish to make any comments or objections to the scheme, please make them before 1st August 2024.
