In her first media interview after being elected as the Member of Parliament for East Grinstead & Uckfield, Mims Davies says boosting the local economy was a key priority.
Speaking to the Sussex Express, Mims said she wanted to "encourage both residents and visitors to shop locally, backing our local businesses, rural economy and fantastic high streets".
Among her objectives is to fight to retain free car parking in Wealden District (Uckfield car parks) as well as attracting more funding for the new constituency.
A key plank of the MP's job will be to listen to what both local residents and our businesses need.
Pushing for improved public transport is also high on Mims' list of priorities. She pledged to continue the hard work she put in as the former MP for Mid Sussex to improve road, bus and rail links.
it was important, maintained the new MP, to work closely with local authorities to develop clear lines of communication on matters such as mending roads and improving infrastructure. Something that desperately needs addressing, she added.
During the election campaign, Mims visited countless businesses across her new patch and spoke to them about their main concerns. Among issues raised were poor broadband connectivity and lack of mobile phone coverage. These were "huge issues" she said, and needed to be addressed urgently in order to increase local jobs and boost the economy.
Fighting for increased NHS provision and better access to local healthcare were also on the list, and she pledged to meet with key NHS teams to see how best to support them for the benefit of patients.
